Data on emissions factor of the Vietnamese electricity grid in 2018 now available

The Department of Climate Change under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) has published a report on the development of the emissions factor (EF) of the Vietnamese electricity grid in 2018. Accordingly, the EF of the Vietnamese electricity grid in 2018 was 0.9130 (tCO2/ MWh). This calculation is based upon updated official data and complies with the instructions for calculation of greenhouse gas emissions factors adopted by Viet Nam in the context of its participation in the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). MONRE further recommends consistent application of this methodology to the CDM, Joint Crediting Mechanism, and mitigation projects (so-called NAMAs), to have a consistent emissions baseline for the review and update of Viet Nam’s NDC. Therefore, continued close cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade will be required.
