Germany, Vietnam in Talks for Comprehensive Energy Partnership

A German Federal Ministry for Economy and Climate Action (BMWK) delegation paid a visit to Viet Nam during June 10-12, 2024. The visit focuses on upgrading the energy partnership between Viet Nam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade and BMWK.

A more comprehensive and broader energy partnership is expected to facilitate more intensive support for Viet Nam, with a larger scale of resources and at a higher political level, addressing areas such as offshore wind power and energy efficiency.

The delegation also had a working session with leaders and officials of the Viet Nam Electricity (EVN). EVN appreciates the active support of the German government in recent years, especially in the field of rooftop solar power as well as energy efficiency in power grids and industries. In the future, both sides wish to expand cooperation in various areas, such as legal framework for offshore wind projects, energy efficiency measurement, and demand-side management.

During the trip, the BMWK delegation also had a close exchange with the Vietnam Energy Women Network (VEWN) and the German enterprises in Viet Nam, as well as joined a discussion with the Energy Efficiency Club (EEC) in Ho Chi Minh City. The BMWK affirmed the German government’s support to the pilot EEC activities in the upcoming period.
