Green Cooling Initiative III launched

The global BMU IKI project Green Cooling Initiative has started its third phase, commissioned in August 2021 and running until July 2024. The main objective is to strengthen relevant Asian policy makers in their competence in promoting Green Cooling in the refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) sector. The third term now includes an Asia hub in Thailand, which will carry out regional activities, partner countries next to Thailand include Vietnam and a third country which is still to be selected. Technical assistance includes market studies, trainings, pilots projects and review of technical standards, aiming at enhanced cooling appliance efficiency and promotion of climate friendly refrigerants as an alternative to hydrofluorocarbons. The project will thereby build on outputs of the former global IKI project Cool Contributions fighting Climate Change (concluded activities in Vietnam in 2018), including the RAC sector GHG inventory. The political partner in Vietnam is the Department of Climate Change (DCC) at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE).

The IKI Vietnam Newsletter is administered by the IKI interface in Vietnam hosted by GIZ. It informs regularly about news of climate change and biodiversity projects in Vietnam financed by the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The International Climate Initiative (IKI) is an important part of the German government’s international climate finance commitment. Since 2022 the IKI is implemented by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) in close cooperation with the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) and the Federal Foreign Office (AA).
