Vietnam Energy Summit 2020

On 22 July, the Vietnam Energy Summit 2020 was held in Hanoi. Organised by the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission, the summit is a high-level policy forum for Vietnam’s public agencies and local and international business communities. The overall aim is to accelerate realisation of the Politburo’s Resolution No. 55 on the Orientation of Vietnam’s National Energy Development Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2045. The policy dialogue was accompanied by an exhibition on modern energy models and technologies.

During the discussion, participants expressed strong support for the new national strategy, which sets a target for renewable energy to reach 25-30% of Vietnam’s total energy supply by 2045. Participants also expressed support for the strategy’s increased attention to energy savings. Vietnam needs to invest simultaneously in sustainable infrastructure and energy efficient technologies to ensure the development of a balanced and effective energy system.

The framework of strategic cooperation with the Central Economic Commission, the National Assembly, and the EU – Vietnam Energy Facility (EVEF) is supporting the development of a long-term vision for Vietnam’s energy transition.
